About the German Bundesliga

The German Bundesliga (die Fußball-Bundesliga) is the highest tier football league in Germany and has grown in popularity in recent years. It has a great balance of physicality mixed with precision tactics, making it one of the most entertaining leagues in the world. The Bundesliga has the highest football league stadium attendance rates and is home to some of the most passionate fans in the world. With a strong presence in European competitions throughout history, the best German teams have often showcased their reputation and quality.

German teams are run as clubs, not businesses and feel a sense of duty to their local community by the way they are run. No outside investors can come in and start running the club however they want. Members of the club make the important decisions. This sense of community leads to fans being more likely to go and watch a game, with most stadiums often selling out, creating amazing atmospheres. Ticket prices are also lower, compared to other European leagues.

Lack on investment has seen other European leagues increase the gap in quality, with fewer German teams reaching the final stages of the Champions League. Bayern Munich have historically and currently dominate the Bundesliga, which does reduce the competitiveness of the league. Most top quality players from other teams often get snapped up by Bayern Munich, increasing their dominance. Other than Bayern Munich, only 2 German teams have won European titles.

The Bundesliga champions and the two teams below them are entered directly into the Champions League competition. The fourth placed side are entered into the Champions League play-off qualifiers.
